Shooting ‘Saint Dracula’

(A post by Ian Williams)

Location Recording Survival Guide

Most common problems on location:

  • Background noise
  • Traffic, aeroplanes
  • Presence of the public on the set (loud, misbehaving)
  • Wind/weather
  • Radio microphones problems: clothes rubbing, mics. receiving different signals on your frequency (like taxi’s etc…)
  • Lights (electric hum)
  • Air condition (hum)
  • Power supply!!!!!(take spare batteries, few kinds of plugs)

Solutions:

  • Take your whole kit (even if you’re not going to need it)
  • DUCK TAPE!!! (gaffer tape, taupe tape))- take it every where!
  • Toolkit (torch, tape, elastic bands and clips, multi-tools, knife etc…)
  • Try to record good sound, don’t count on the ‘notch’ EQ-ing in post production (taking out a frequency with a narrow band) Read the full post »
